Apart being the safest sugar substitute, according to some studies, Stevia leaf is rich in micronutrients like: vitamin A & C, Magnesium, Potassium, Iron, Calcium, etc that a mother-to-be mostly needs.

I can personally attest that I have been using Truvia in my coffee every day for the past 6 months, using 3-4 packets a day, and have never had any side effects whatsoever. I love this stuff!

Truvia actually contains only 9/10 of 1% Rebiana and masking agent. Rebiana is not an ingredient in the stevia plant, nor is it found in nature. It is produced by the action of stringent alcohols and chemicals on various stevia glycosides. Rebiana is simply a trade name that Cargill gave their chemically derived product in 2008. The "No Questions" letter from the FDA says that Rebiana has methanol and ethanol residues. Rebiana is commonly confused with Rebaudioside A (Reb A), which is produced by the action of sunlight on the leaves, so it is one of the 11 glycoside compounds naturally within the stevia leaves and is about 400 times sweeter than sugar.

The wonderful benefits of stevia are from pure stevia. Truvia is not pure, nor is it really a stevia product.

The remaining 99.1% is erythritol, which is not in the stevia plant at all. Erythritol is a sugar extracted from corn with alcohol, which can be hard on the digestive system. Cargill, whose product it is, reported that their corn is 30% GMOs (genetically modified organisms). Truvia is pretty much corn sugar.

As far as adverse effects, I don't know any scientific studies that tout it as being unsafe. However, I have read of some people who seem to have had reactions to it.
