Top 10 Weird Homemade Hair Treatments

Your food can also be good for you – in a different way.  Olive oil, sea salt, and lemon juice are just a few of the items that could be good for your salad and your hair at the same time.  Here is a list of the weirdest items that can actually be very helpful in making your hair shine.

Mayonnaise

The eggs and the vegetable oil in mayonnaise can double as a very good hair conditioner, but can also make your hair smell terrible.  Sometimes, shampooing after the mayonnaise treatment can’t get the odor off.

Ketchup

Blond swimmers who usually dive into chlorinated pools can get real help from ketchup which can contradict the green hue that blond hair can get from chlorine.  Leave it on for about 30 minutes every now and then.  There is only one set-back – having your hair smell like French fries.

Olive oil

Dry and brittle frequently colored hair can be saved with olive oil left on overnight or for at least 30 minutes.  The regular shampoo and conditioner will easily get the oil off once you’re done.

Beer

While most of us would rather have beer inside our bellies than on our hair, this can actually give us some extra softness and shine.  Some say it’s the barley that does the trick.  It is, however, quite illogical to waste cold drinkable beer on your hair, when anyway, when you have drank enough, your hair would be the least of your worries.

Tea and Coffee

Obviously, because of the color of these liquids, these can really enhance the locks of those who dye their hairs in a dark hue.  These drinks are temporary color boosters.  Chamomile tea can give rich color to those who have lighter shade locks; it can also give additional softness and fragrance.

Lemon juice

Because of the acid in lemon juice, it can work as good hair bleach.  Blonds can get a lighter shade if lemon juice is applied unto the hair and exposed to the sun for thirty minutes to an hour.  Combing a little of the juice on before going outdoors can also result to subtle, shiny highlights.

Beet juice

This red liquid can cause stubborn stains on clothing and furniture but can be very good for a redhead’s hair.  Beets can be good for your health and your physical appearance as well.

Body lotion

Who says body lotion is only for the body?  You can also use your favorite body lotion as a hair conditioner because it has the same effect on your skin and on your hair, considering that both body lotion and hair conditioners contain similar ingredients.  Cocoa butter can also work miracles and give your hair a yummy scent as well.

Baby powder

Oily hair can be remedied by sprinkling a little baby powder unto the head and combing through the hair.  The powder can soak up some of the excess oil.  What can be good for baby bottoms can actually be good for your hair also.

Sea salt

Don’t envy those celebrities who look like they just got back from the beach.  You can get the same effect by spritzing some sea salt and water mixture on your locks after your hair has been slightly air-dried.  After the spritz, scrunch your hair and the sea salt will do wonders for your locks by enhancing its natural waves.

Amazing hair can actually be achieved by going through the stuff in your kitchen or your toiletry cabinet.  With the hundreds of hair care products available on the market, finding the best hair remedy in your own home, already there without your knowing it, can be a literal breath of fresh air.

This is a really great top ten list. Olive Oil totally works, I highly recommend it, it’s a cheap alternative to a lot of hair products out there on the market. I’m not so sure about Beet Juice, sounds kinf of weird. You can post this to our site http://www.toptentopten.com/ and then link back to your site. We are looking for top ten lists and our users can track back to your site. The coolest feature is you can let other people vote on the rankings of your list.

When it comes to unconventional uses of food, I am very open-minded. My former roommate mentioned that olive oil helped her hair to grow, but she was talking about the hair care product. Well, I’ve always known that olive oil is good for the skin and hair. Instead of using the hair product with all of its additives and chemicals, I decided to use the real thing. When I went grocery shopping, I bought a can of olive oil. I sprayed that olive oil on my hair and scalp everyday. It gave my hair a lusterous look and I truly believe it stimulated my scalp.

Another wayward idea for hair care that goes back to my great-grandmother’s time is the usage of urine and rain water to wash the hair. My mother always told me that my great-grandmother washed her hair with urine and rain water, and she never brushed it. She said combing your hair was the best way to stimulate the scalp and the brush just made your hair shed more. My great-grandmother, who is now deceased, has always had a head full of silky, shiny hair. I’m going to trust that my great-grandmother knew what she was talking about, but I don’t think I will be washing my hair with urine and rain water.
