Good point Frances! Fruit eaten after meals will sit in the stomach for a lot longer than usual (losing nutrients while it waits) and can cause bloating. For this reason, it's best to eat fruit in the morning or before any other meal.

As a related issue to food combination, the order we eat our food is important too. A lot of people eat fruits after a heavy meal and thought it is healthy. However, it takes about 1/2 for fresh fruits to digest while a good 3-4 hours for protein/fat to digest. When fruits have to sit in the stomach for 3-4 hours with that heavy meal, they start to ferment and causes gas.

Ishta,if I may jump in, fruits go very well with green leafy vegetables, but not so well with starchy vegetables. Fats and carbohydrates are not a good combination, because the fats delay digestion, and then the fruits get an opportunity to ferment and cause lots of trouble.

Cheese can be a healthy addition to your diet when you follow the guidelines. An ounce of cheese is considered one serving and provides 200 - 300 mg of calcium. Cheese also provides a good source of protein and vitamin B2, riboflavin. Even though cheese can be high in cholesterol, sodium and saturated fat, that doesn't mean you need to avoid cheese altogether. It is important to pay attention to the type and amount of cheese you eat. If you like 'soft cheeses', go for low fat, part-skim or light products. If you're into 'hard cheeses', look for fat free, low fat or reduced fat.

Lots of info about combining here....something I didn't see was the bad combination of fats with fruit (a lot of raw fooders tend to overdue the fat to begin with). Also I don't mean to be critical or challenge people's beliefs regarding food, but how is cheese a healthy food? All the Best!

Combination of tomatoes and foods like pasta and bread leads to inhibiting the enzyme activity in the body to digest the starches. The starches then tend to sit in the stomach for a long time, since the various acids present in the tomato are very much opposed to the alkaline digestion of starches, and this allow fermentation to occur, which causes gas and heart burn.

So it is a bad idea to eat traditional tomato sauce with pasta? Or is it just raw tomatoes that shouldn't be eaten with carbs?
