Movement is a valuable facet of life. But that may not come to you easily if you suffer from joint pain. Joints are responsible for facilitating movements in various parts of the body and are therefore very sensitive to injury or excess physical pressure.
Repetitive motion often creates tiny fractures around a joint which may eventually cause joint degeneration. Athletes place themselves at a much higher risk due to sports injuries.
Tips To Prevent Joint Injuries
The most vulnerable joints are the knees, hips and ankles. There are a few things you can do to still enjoy the sports you love and reduce the risk of injuring your joints.
- Before you even hit the road, warm up and stretch out. Spend at least 10 minutes warming up, stretching, focusing on the ankles, knees, hips and shoulders.
- Do exercises to strengthen the quadriceps muscles. They are particularly valuable for protecting knee joints. Do not forget to put on the knee braces as it will give you the extra protection.
- Choose the right shoes. Running shoes should come with extra cushioning to handle greater impact. For an even better protection, wear the ankle braces before you put on your shoes.
