The following plants all have special air cleansing properties to help de-stress your home or office.

Goosefoot plant

The goosefoot, or Syngonium podophyllum, has the inspiring, ‘upward’ wood energy which is associated with the east or southeast. Place it on a desk or workstation to let its spirit of spring, dawn, youth and new ideas aid inspiration. Goosefoots also like the humidity of a bathroom.

Fern

Ferns are particularly good at ionizing the air to help compensate for pollution. They need damp conditions and low light to thrive, making them ideal for bathrooms or north areas.

Devil’s Ivy

Despite its name, this is a good choice to conceal ‘cutting chi’ in the home. Epipremnum aureum needs only moderate amounts of light and can be cleverly trained to wind around pillars, or hang from a shelf of basket.

Weeping Fig

Ficus benjamina is another attractive plant that’s very useful for hiding and softening cutting chi, for example from the sharp angles of walls in an irregularly shaped room. Its twisting stems represent the ideal, meandering path of chi. Put it in front of a pale wall so its plaited form rally stands out.

Peace Lily

Peace lily is a very accurate name for Spathiphyllum wallisii, which ionizes the atmosphere and can help stabilize chi that is abnormally charged by TVs, computers, microwave ovens, stereos, mobile phones etc. Position the plant near one of these modern appliances.

Aloe Vera

Aloe barbadensis is an easy to grow succulent. Its pointed shape is associated with fire energy, so it’s suitable for a window sill in the south, where light will be plentiful. Aloe vera is also ideal in kitchens, the healing centres of homes. Stroke the sap from a leaf onto any cuts or burns.

Spider Plant

Chlorophytum comosum ‘Vittatum’ provides gentle, calming chi like hat of water. It doesn’t require much light, so can be used in the north or northeast of your home. Spider plants are ideal for hanging over the shard edges of a fireplace, shelf or bookcase to hide cutting chi.
